are home to millions of people by the midpoint of the Solar Ecliptic era. Most
of the inhabitants of these colonies are refugees from Earth who left during the
various bouts of warfare experienced on the home world, and most have
forged a new identity aboard their new homes.
By the mid-02100s the population of the various orbital colonies had exploded to rival the colonies of several of the outsystem moons. |
The culture of these settlements tends to be a high-tech mix of artisan work
and scientific experimentation. The culture aboard these stations runs
towards the freewheeling with many of the strictures of Earth-side society
removed. Commerce is mostly one of service and small-scale manufacturing,
in support of the various military and commercial fleets operating in space.
Some of these stations have begun constructing their own vessel designs
and even to begin considering projection of their own power. This
development would appear to have a possible influence on human culture as
mankind gears up to leave the Solar System for the nearby stars.
Colonists from these settlements can come from several quite different backgrounds.
For example, Lagrangia (the orbital established at L5 between Earth and Luna) is an idyllic environment where inhabitants live surrounded by every luxury available.
However, the medical station over Venus is something of a slum, despite offering
some of the best care in the Solar System.
The Venus station was operated by agencies from both the Medina League and Northern Bloc, but over time became something of a dumping ground for undesirables. |
